Horse racing has always known how to celebrate bravery. It was slower to recognise it in women.

Bryony Frost grew up in racing, but still had to win her place in a sport where tradition can feel heavier than a saddle.

In 2019, she and Frodon won the Ryanair Chase, making her the first woman to ride a Grade 1 winner over jumps at Cheltenham Festival.

On Boxing Day 2020, they won the King George VI Chase at Kempton, another first for a female jockey in one of jump racing’s great races.

Her rides are remembered for more than the record. The partnership with Frodon carried something people could feel: trust, nerve, joy and a refusal to shrink in a world that can be brutal to anyone who looks like an exception.
